Community Nutrition

Overview

We provide nutrition services to individuals, groups, daycares (Headstart), schools, and community health staff to improve the nutritional status of our community members, comprised of six of Saskatoon Tribal Council’s First Nation member communities.  

STC has two registered dietitians who oversee the Nutrition Services program. The program utilizes traditional and western health beliefs, values and practices to promote health for community members.

Services Available

Health Education

  • Individual counselling and support for prevention and management of chronic illness
  • Group education workshops
  • Health-risk assessment screening clinics

Community Kitchens

  • Cooking literacy and education
  • Food skills development

Food Security

  • Support for food security initiatives such as the Good Food Box, gardening, Meals on Wheels and CPNP coupons

Community Health Promotion

  • Health fairs and treaty days
  • Distribute current health information
  • Nutrition policy development and implementation

School and Daycare Nutrition

  • Support healthy school environments through a healthy meal and snack program and school nutrition policy,
  • Resource development,
  • Training for teachers, and
  • Nutrition education.

Eligibility

Nutrition counselling and education are available to community members of all ages at Kinistin, Mistawasis, Muskeg Lake, Muskoday, One Arrow and Yellow Quill. Limited programming is also available through Saskatoon Tribal Council affiliated programs within Saskatoon.
