Late Wednesday afternoon STC was informed that Myles Sanderson was taken into custody outside Rosthern Saskatchewan. Sanderson was wanted in connection with the James Smith Cree Nation tragedy that took 10 innocent lives including the lives of Bonnie and Gregory Burns, the sister and nephew of Tribal Chief Mark Arcand.

“We are relieved that Sanderson has been arrested and the manhunt is over. Now people can start to feel safe again but also now is the time for healing to begin,” Arcand said. “There is a lot of trauma that will need to be dealt with and the victims will need our continued support. This is just the start”

Sanderson has been the subject of a provincial-wide manhunt after the horrific attacks on James Smith Cree Nation and the community of Weldon.

“We would like to thank all law enforcement including the RCMP, and police services from numerous communities including Saskatoon, Regina, and Prince Albert for their tireless efforts,” Arcand added
